Yamazaki began drawing the supernatural fantasy manga, also known as Mabuyomi, in Monthly Comic Blade in November 2013 before switching it to Monthly Comic Garden due to the previous serialization being discontinued. Mag Garden is simultaneously serializing the manga on its MAGCOMI website and publishing the 17th volume on March 10. Mahoutsukai no Yome has 10 million copies of its volumes in circulation.
The Wit Studio produced the OVA Mahoutsukai no Yome: Hoshi Matsu Hito (The Ancient Magus' Bride: Those Awaiting a Star) consisting of three original video anime episodes, bundled with volumes six, seven, and eight from 2016-2017. The 24-episode TV anime premiered in fall 2017, and production has run through to the ninth volume.
Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga in English in October 2014 and published the fifteenth volume this past October. The sixteenth volume is scheduled for release on October 25. The manga has also been published in several foreign languages, including Polish, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Finnish, and Brazilian Portuguese.
The original video anime from Nishi no Shounen to Seiran no Kishi (The Boy from the West and the Knight of the Blue Storm), produced by Studio Kafka, has been compiled with a special edition of volumes 16-18. The eighteenth volume, along with the third and final episode, will ship on September 9.
The story of the anime Mahoutsukai no Yome
Despite being able to see creatures from another world, Chise Hattori never considered herself lucky. Since her parents abandoned her at a young age, this has been the epicenter of her struggles, leading her to sell herself into a slave market, just to secure a place she can call home.
Introduced to the presenters as rare "Peggy's Sleigh" - beings that have an unusually high affinity for magical energies - Chase's last remaining hope appears in the form of Elias Ainsworth, a mysterious monster more than human. Rather than keep her as a slave, he decided to make her his disciple as well as his bride.
Not only is Chase physically transported to the English countryside where Elias lives, he is also introduced to a world where wondrous things like fairies and dragons are the norm. But she soon realizes that there is as much to fear in her new life as there is. Lying at the heart of all this is the question of whether she has fallen into the hands of something far darker than her inner demons.
